e-Aadhar Card

While the Government of India is linking the most of its services with Aadhar Card, it has become essential to have an Aadhar card for all Indian citizens. Additionally, it is also crucial to make sure that all your biometric and demographic details in Aadhar card are accurate and updated. In case there is a mismatch in your information and Aadhaar data, you might become ineligible to avail several facilities and benefits offered by the government.

The country is moving towards the digital drive, and the government has put up a number of measures to ensure this.   • The e aadhar card is an electronic Aadhaar card and is available online to download. It can be accessed online at any time. You need not have to worry about losing your Aadhaar card as it is virtual and cannot be lost.
  • e aadhar card is a universal identity card and can be availed by all citizens of the country. The card acts as a proof of identity as well as address proof, unlike most other identity documents.
  • The number of subsidies provided by the Government of India such as LPG subsidy can be availed by using Aadhaar card.

  • e aadhar card is a valid identity and address proof as mentioned by the UIDAI since this document is digitally certified. Moreover,

This might happen due to clerical error or you erroneously providing incorrect information. In such a scenario, you must get your Aadhaar card information updated at the earliest. Normally, after you apply for changes in your Aadhar card, it takes a few days to weeks for the changes to be updated and in dispatching a new Aadhar card.

However, with the digitization of Aadhar card, you can now also download your Aadhar card online through official portal of UIDAI with updated details. This way you don't have to wait for weeks to receive your Aadhar card by post and download the same as soon as the required changes are updated in the Aadhaar database.

Additionally, having an e aadhar card keeps your Aadhaar information handy and eliminates the chances of you ever losing or forgetting your Aadhar details. As it is a digital version of your Aadhar card, it is accepted everywhere in the country, with no exception.

How to Download e-Aadhar Card from the e-Aadhar Link?

Follow the steps given below in order to download your e-Aadhar card.

  • If you already have an Aadhar card, you can enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number. If you have not received your Aadhar number yet, you must note down the enrolment number, date and time provided in your acknowledgement slip that would have been given during the time of Aadhaar application.
  • You need to visit the official website of UIDAI and enter all the required details.
  • Click on “Get One Time password (OTP)”
  • You will receive a one-time password on your mobile number which you need to enter into the given space to download it.
  • Enter the first 4 letters of your name in capital letters combined with your birth year in YYYY format as the password. This password is to be used to open the e-Aadhaar PDF file.

Checking Status of Update in Aadhaar Data

If you have made any changes in the personal information of your Aadhaar such as name, address, age, etc., then you need to first check the e-Aadhaar status of your update request before downloading e aadhar card. Following are the steps you need to follow to check your e-Aadhaar status.

  • Log in to the official website of Aadhaar uidai.gov.in/
  • Click on the link “Check Status Update Done Online” if you have made changes through the self-service portal of UIDAI.
  • In case you have requested for the changes at any Aadhaar enrolment centre, then click on the link “Check Status Update Done at Enrolment Centre / ECMP”.
  • You will be taken to the check status page of the website. Here you can check the update status of your change request.
  • Enter your Aadhaar number, SRN and URN which you have received with the acknowledgement receipt while applying for information update. Enter the captcha and click on the "Get Status" button.
  • You will be able to see whether your Aadhaar update request has been accepted or not. If your update request has been approved, you can download your e aadhar card. In case your update request has been rejected, the system will show the reason for rejection, and you need to apply again.

Alternatively, you can also visit your nearest enrolment centre to check your e-Aadhaar status.

Where can I download e Aadhaar?

You can download your e-Aadhaar card from the official website of UIDAI uidai.gov.in/ or can install mAadhaar app in your smartphone.

What is the Password of e-Aadhaar?

E-Aadhaar can be downloaded from the website of Aadhaar. Once you have downloaded the file in pdf format, you will need a password to access the same. The password is an alpha-numeric 8-digit unique code which is a combination of your birth year and name. The first 4 letters of your name in capital combined with your birth year in YYYY format is the password of your e-Aadhaar.

From where can a Resident download e-Aadhaar?

A Resident can download e-Aadhaar from the official website of UIDAI resident.uidai.gov.in/offlineaadhaar. Alternatively, they can also download e-Aadhaar from mAadhaar mobile app.

How to validate digital signatures in e-Aadhaar?

Follow the steps mentioned below to validate digital signatures in e-Aadhaar- The computer must be connected to the internet while verifying the digital signature.

  • Right-click on the "Validity Unknown" option and click on "Validate Signature" button.
  • You will be redirected to the signature validate the status window. Click on "Signature Properties".
  • Click on “Show certificate”.
  • Verify that there is a certification path “NIC sub-CA for NIC 2011, National Informatic Centre”. This identifies “NIC sub-CA for NIC 2011, National Informatic Centre” as the owner of the digital certificate that has been used while signing the document.
  • Mark the certification path. Click the “Trust” tab and then “Add to Trusted Identities”.
  • Answer “OK” to any security question from the given list.
  • Check the field for “Use this certificate as a trusted root” and hit “OK” button twice to close the window.
  • Click on “Validate Signature” button to execute the validation.

It is important to note that “NIC sub-CA for NIC 2011, National Informatic Centre” is a trusted identity and any subsequent documents with digital signatures from CCA will be validated automatically as and when opened.

Is e-Aadhaar equally valid like a physical copy of Aadhaar?

Yes. e-Aadhaar is equally valid as a physical copy of the Aadhaar card for all purposes.

How can a Resident download e-Aadhaar?

Resident can download e-Aadhaar by two ways. They are:

  1. By using Aadhaar enrolment number: Residents can download e-Aadhaar card using 28-digit enrolment number along with full name and pin code. One will receive an OTP on registered mobile number. One can also use TOTP to download e-Aadhaar card instead of using OTP. TOTP can be generated using mAadhaar mobile app.
  2. By using Aadhaar number: A Resident can also download the e-Aadhaar card by using 12-digit Aadhaar number along with full name and pin code. One will receive an OTP on registered mobile number. One can also use TOTP to download e-Aadhaar card instead of using OTP. TOTP can be generated using mAadhaar mobile app.

What supporting software needed to open the e-Aadhar card?

Resident needs "Adobe Reader" in order to view the e-Aadhaar card. You need to have Adobe Reader installed on your system. To install Adobe Reader on your system, you can use get.adobe.com/reader/ link.
